Tenchi Muyo Galaxy - A New Kickstarter that Demands the Attention of Every Fan!
Tenchi Muyo, the legendary anime that helped establish the art form in the West, is poised for a long overdue comeback! Thanks to a tiny team of fans known as Armiger Entertainment, "Tenchi Galaxy" is in the works--a 30-minute special that, if successful, will return the franchise to the forefront of animedom once again!

So, now the good news. A small bad of fans, refusing to accept Tenchi’s demise in the cultural zeitgeist, formed a company called Armiger Entertainment for a singular purpose—to resurrect the Tenchi show and mythos for the current generation. Although steeped in the steam of mystery, the company has done a lot behind the scenes, even traveling to Japan to befriend, and collaborate, with the property’s lead creators.
The fruits of this partnership has been immense. In 2025, Armiger held a campaign on Kickstarter to reprint the long-forgotten Tenchi Muyo “Panime” comic written specifically for American audiences. Armiger needed $50,000 dollars…and got over triple that amount. Now, a year later, the company is trying again.
Another comic book installment, maybe? Or, perhaps, a visual novel or interactive adventure? Nope.
Rather, Armiger has achieved what many deemed as impossible; going far beyond the printed page, the company is bringing Tenchi back to his element—the 30-minute OVA. Titled Tenchi Galaxy as a direct correlation to its series of reverence—Tenchi Universe—this spiritual continuation brings back the entire roster of characters along with their original English-speaking voice actors. This means voice actors like Petrea Burchard, K.T. Vogt, Sherry Lynn, and Matt Miller will be all be reprising their famous roles (Ryoko, Washu, Sasami, and Tenchi, respectively). Only Ayeka, once voiced by Jennifer Darling, gets a new actor in Cristina Vee. (Mihoshi gets her second voice actress, Rebecca Forstadt; Ellen Gerstell gave the bubbly police gal her voice in the franchise’s earliest days).
Of course, being essentially a self-contained short film, Tenchi Galaxy’s purpose goes beyond offering a nostalgic romp for fans—it’s essentially a pilot, a proof-of-concept, to prove the Tenchi gang is still relevant, still viable, still deserving of a revival. Worthy of a full series, specifically. This lonely, homegrown episode will decide the fate of the Tenchi franchise.
It’s a big responsibility for little Armiger to fulfill--that one of anime’s greatest classics now rests on the talent and love of a tiny American upstart. It's a sobering note in the Tenchi story, but one which will hopefully spark the interest, then fan the fandom, of the modern anime community.
So, do your part! Donate to Armiger’s Kickstarter and help spread the Tenchi gospel. The good new is that, as of July 20th, 2026, about $600,000 has already been donated. This means the single episode is a guaranteed release…but the future is far from assured. The more cash fans donate, the louder the message becomes that this franchise still has a future. Deserves a complete season.
Tenchi’s history needn’t be finished; let this Kickstarter be merely the open call for the next testament in the life of a simple boy suddenly deluged by a slew of outrageous, gorgeous, cosmic girls. If the West must be the saga’s saviors, then so be it. Let us all give Tenchi another chance, a second coming.
Let's remind the world that anime is more than monkey heroes and sailor chicks and fetch-stretchy pirates of rubbery persuasions. Anime can be quiet and violent, heartfelt and hellish, of political intrigue and fairy tale dream. That’s Tenchi.

Tenchi Muyo, the once-acclaimed anime sensation from the 1990s…is barely known today. What was once considered the “anime of everything” for its dynamic blend of action and romance, of cosmic comedy and feminine vim…barely holds a footnote in the mind of the modern anime fan. The reasons for this are too numerous and inscrutable to properly encapsulate here (see “Tenchi Muyo Where Are You” for the epic explanation). But for an art form and industry that was once considered too foreign, too bizarre, too impossible for a Western audience to fully appreciate…Tenchi Muyo served as the medium’s foremost ambassador and template. More than just giant robots, busty women, and ki blasts that could pop planets, Tenchi Muyo proved anime could be all of that…and so much more.
But, yes, after a magnificent start, the Tenchi franchise declined sharply in the early 2000s. The flow of new episodes slowed to a drip, and those that did come were considered disappointments by much of the fandom. On-line streaming made matters even worse, burying Tenchi under a glut of anime content that was rarely better but far more available.
In a sense, Tenchi Muyo had succeeded in seeding anime in the West…only to then paradoxically vanish as anime continued its global conquest.
Tenchi Universe was the second series in the franchise, this one designed for TV. Armiger, in this new Kickstarter, aims to continue (sort of) this specific continuity.
The Kickstarter comes with plenty of rewards, including Blu-ray steelbooks, artbooks, stickers, and even a VHS release!
The entire Tenchi Universe cast returns...albeit in slightly updated form. This is due to their "Panime" comic book appearance back in the 1990s. Tenchi Galaxy is really an animated derivation/continuation of this specific series.
Hiroshi Negishi, director of Tenchi Universe, will be reprising his role for this new 30-minute installment.
The Kickstarter hit all its initial goals in a matter of days. Unfortunately, with no more to reach, it's now just coasting to an ambiguous next milestone ($800,000).
Two timelines: One depicting the presumed release of this new Tenchi special, and another to contain what is really a new Tenchi Continuity - one based on the forgotten Panime American comic from the 1990s.
Tenchi Galaxy will feature most of the original voice cast, along with some newcomers including digital star Nerissa Ravencroft playing Risa, a space pirate.
